Twenga – The web 2.0 price comparison website

Shopping on the internet usually has a big advantage over shopping locally; the prices are often a huge amount lower. Sadly there is still the challenge of finding the cheapest store; a thing that isn’t always as easy as you’d like it to be. Especially when you’re looking for less techy stuff, such as fashion or health related products.

Twenga LogoThis is where Twenga jumps in, giving you one big directory of all sorts of products and stores that offer them. Currently their service is still beta, which might also be a smart marketing trick of course, however, judging by the information they’ve released they gather their data using a smart web crawler, gathering all the prices as it goes.

Judging by the way the web page looks, they’ve done some pretty decent development on this website, all categories are in logical places and quite some options are offered when searching for products. Currently it seems like the database isn’t really optimally filled though, searching for ‘Van Gils’ (my favorite perfume / deodorant brand) only returned three hits, and not the products I wanted. This is only a minor problem though, the ‘really popular’ categories such as computers and audio & video are well filled and gave me enough information when searching.
