Dial-up didn’t die yet, really!

While I have been with the idea that dial-up users pretty much died around the time the last dinosaur walked around here – that kind of stuff happens when you’re on broadband for more than six years – it seems like the opposite is true, there are actually people investing in that business!

One of the companies, in fact the only one I know, that does so is PCDialup.com, a new website (and company with the same name) that is trying to gain a big market share in the dial-up business. Judging by their website they are aiming for the American market, something that is no more than logical considering broadband is cheap and very popular in Europe and parts of Asia. With their plans starting at 4$ a month, 5$ with an advanced proxy or ‘acceleration service’ the price isn’t very high, but still not great compared to cheap broadband connections which start around the same range here in Europe. However, as a backup connection it’s very interesting.

One thing you’ve done pretty well is their website; it seems pretty straightforward and doesn’t come with any clutter. The advantage of this, especially for dial-up users, is that it’ll load in no-time, even with the slowest connection thinkable. I wonder if this’ll become the new hype, it would be a welcome contrast to the weblogs that fill their sidebar with thousands of buttons and icons…
