Free online backups in Web 2.0 style
While I’ve written a lot about making backups online already, it seems like a new ‘best’ website has come up. The company ‘IDrive‘ is now promoting their new and hip (web 2.0!) online backup system. The first thing you will notice when you visit their website is that it’s free, a ‘regular’ account comes with 2GB of space and fully functional software to automate your backup process.
According to their website using their software will integrate somewhat in your PC, having the backup ‘drive’ showing up as a virtual drive in explorer, making it pretty easy to backup your files, or perhaps just as important, restoring them. Using this service will also give you an option to set a 128- or 256-bit encryption key, that way you should be pretty certain no one will be able to read or recover your files unless you share that information – a nice idea.
Another nice point is their website, it looks pretty neat and is fully ‘Web 2.0′ style, just like Digg & co. In case you wont have enough with the standard 2GB they’ve – of course – also got a paid version available, giving you unlimited storage room – perfect for the die-hard backuppers.
